Did you know you can fish for rainbow trout year round in Alabama? You can in the Sipsey Fork tailrace below Smith Lake Dam. The Sipsey Fork is stocked monthly with over 3,500 nine inch rainbow trout. Yesterday they took the short, slippery ride down the stocking pipe into the chilly water below the dam. The fish come from two hatcheries in Tennessee and is overseen by ADCNR Alabama hatchery personnel from Eastaboga. The Sipsey Fork is the southernmost tailrace for trout fishing east of the Mississippi River. Riverside Fly Shop is a great resource to learn how to fly fish and purchase tackle. They are located just across from the fishing access road on Hwy. 69 at the bridge. Learn more about how they stock the trout below.
