A Mobile police officer was killed in the line of duty Sunday after following up on leads on a suspect, according to Chief Lawrence Battiste.

The officer has been identified as Ofc. Sean Tuder.

Just after 4 p.m., an incident occurred at the Peach Place Inn in West Mobile attempting to execute an arrest warrant for a suspect who had been on the run, according to Battiste.

The suspect is identified as 19-year-old Marco Perez.

“This is a time for grief for us,” Battiste said. “We are trying to make sense of how we could have another brother lose his life in less than a year. We’re thankful to those who have reached out to us so far, but this is a hard time for us.”

According to Battiste, it is unknown if Perez is the alleged shooter, but he is in police custody.
