A Randolph County teacher will stay locked up on $1.5 million dollar bond at least until the end of March.

A judge set a hearing on David Burkhalter’s motion to reduce his bond for March 26.

Burkhalter was arrested February 13th on charges of rape, sodomy, school employee engaging in a sex act with a student and electronic solicitation of a child.

Burkhalter’s attorney called the bond excessive and unconstitutional in filing the motion seeking a reduction in the bond of nearly $1.4 million.

Burkhalter remains on paid administrative leave from his job as a math teacher at Randolph County High School.
