Cullman police are looking for a man who stole a patrol unit.

Officers were called to Wal-Mart Tuesday morning about a shoplifting suspect who left the store after being confronted. They located 22-year-old Jackie Lee Walker walking near the store, where he was placed in handcuffs and put in the back of the patrol unit before being taken back to Wal-Mart to meet with loss prevention employees.

While the officer talked to employees on the sidewalk outside of the store to determine if Walker would be charged, Walker was able to step through the handcuffs that were holding his hands behind his back and crawl through a small window between the front and back seats of the patrol unit. When the officer noticed this, he attempted to use his key fob to stop the vehicle, but he was unsuccessful.

Police Chief Kenny Culpepper said Walker then drove off in the Police Tahoe.

“It’s such a shame. This person may not have been charged, or may be looking at a misdemeanor, but now it’s a felony,” Culpepper said.

Walker, was wearing a blue hoodie, blue jeans and the handcuffs.

Anyone with information on Walker’s whereabouts may call police at 256-734-1434.
