GADSDEN, Ala. — A suspect in a east Gadsden neighborhood was shot by police after he pulled a gun and shot at the officers attempting to arrest him Saturday night.
Gadsden Police were called to 14th Street and Robinson Avenue around 9:00 p.m. after receiving a report of multiple gun shots fired in the area.
In a statement early Sunday morning, police said the suspect, who has not been publicly identified, refused to comply with officers who began wrestling him to the ground. Police say the suspect shot at the officers who shot back, striking the suspect.
Police said the suspect was expected to survive. Neither of the police officers were struck by gunfire.
Gadsden Police said the case had been turned over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and the officers involved were placed been placed on administrative leave and /or non-enforcement duties pending conclusion of the investigation.
