WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — New information on a massive fish kill along the Mulberry Fork branch of the Black Warrior River, that stretches 40 miles from Cullman to Walker County.
Clean-up crews were on the water today in Walker county.
The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) today finished collecting water samples from the estimated 800,000 gallon wastewater spill on Monday, June 10.
The Black Warrior River Keeper said they found the waters impacted by this spill to contain e-coli twice the safe limit allowed by the state.
They recommend you do not fish or get in the waters.
ADEM said the company responsible for the spill, River Valley Ingredients which is owned by Tyson Foods, hired an emergency response coordinator to recover as much of the released waste-water as possible.
