OPELIKA, Ala. (WSFA) – An east Alabama police department reacted quickly to a social media video that showed a man tied to a chair with a fire set underneath him.
Opelika police were notified of the viral social media post at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and officers immediately recognized the location and raced to the area.
The victim, who appeared to have been assaulted, was still tied to the chair when officers arrived at the dead end of Morgan Avenue off South Long Street. The suspect was also still on the scene, though police said he fled when they arrived.
The 31-year-old victim was taken to East Alabama Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
A motive for the crime was not immediately clear.
It took more than a day, but Opelika police and the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force found and arrested the suspect, 30-year-old Kenderick Omar Hill, of Auburn.
Hill is now charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree attempted assault, and attempting to flee law enforcement.
