IF YOU ARE SICK, DO YOU TRY TO GET WELL?

I run into people every day who are sick.  They are trying to get an appointment with a Dr. to try to get them well.

ALCOHOLISM IS A DISEASE, WHY DON’T YOU TRY TO GET WELL?

Take, for instance,  poison ivy.  Some people can pick it up, carry it around, stick it in their pocket and throw it away. The poison ivy will not bother them.  The there are some people can look at it,  have to get medicine, or even shots to get rid of it.  It makes them sick as and feel worse than crap!

A lot of people can drink responsibly, go on about their business and are never bothered.  I use to wish I was one of the people, just after I got sober 9 years and 7 months ago.  Now I don’t think about it, unless I am put in certain situations.  I am thankful some people  don’t have the disease of alcoholism.  They can take a drink and go on about their business.  I CAN’T! I know I have the disease of alcoholism!  Heck, I am not ashamed of it, I am just thankful there are ways to control the disease.

There are so many treatments.  I have found a few treatments that help.  You have to have a higher power (mine is God),  I don’t care if you think your higher power is a dog…have one! Check with you health provider.  Go to an Alcoholic Anonymous (AA)  meeting. AA has been such a big help to me.  I have found some of the most honest and non-judgemental people in my life,  in AA meetings.  Find support. AA will hook you up with a sponsor that will not be your friend, but he/she has been there and you will find you can help each other.  It can be family, friends or a professional. Call 1-844-289-0879 (National Helpline Number)

I have lost 4 people I know in the last 3 weeks to the disease of alcoholism!  It makes me mad, because at least 1 of them has been to get help, but was just hardheaded and thought he/she was more powerful than the disease.

You can be an alcoholic, get help and NO ONE has to know it, except your higher power and people you confide in.  Always remember though, “TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE!”

Look, there a lot of you like me, you are sick.  GET SOME HELP!  Not only are you hurting yourself, YOU ARE HURTING PEOPLE YOU LOVE AND PEOPLE WHO LOVE AND CARE FOR YOU!!

Don’t think about not drinking again, just think about not drinking today!

Somebody loves you!  Hell,  love yourself and get some help!
