Abandoned car hit by train in Trussville leads to chase, public intoxication arrest (Randolph County Man)

An east Alabama man was taken into custody early Wednesday after his abandoned vehicle was hit by a train in Trussville.

Trussville police responded about 1:18 a.m. to a report of a crash between a Norfolk Southern train and a Honda Pilot, said Det. Ben Short. The collision happened in the 100 block of Railroad Avenue.

Once officers got on the scene, they learned the vehicle was driven up on the tracks, away from the railroad crossing and became stuck. The Honda was unoccupied at the time of the crash.

As authorities began searching for the owner of the vehicle, they located 33-year-old Ryan Mitchell of Newell, which is in Randolph County. He ran from them but was captured after a brief foot chase.

Short said Mitchell was arrested for public intoxication and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer. He is being held in the Trussville City Jail.
