A man is dead after a two hour standoff with law enforcement in Etowah county on Friday.

The Etowah County sheriff’s office said they were called to a home on Kelley lane around 11 this morning.

A woman said her husband was inside their home, firing shots.

A sheriff’s deputy was able to get the wife to safety, and reported shots were fired in his direction.

The joint special operations group was called in.

They used gas canisters to try and draw the man out.

Eventually, they used a robot with a camera to go inside the home, where they found 59-year-old Joel Keith Willoughby dead from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
