A 22-year-old woman was killed at a west Georgia gas station after her boyfriend snatched another man’s jewelry from his neck, according to police.

The man began shooting at Da’Jai Green and her boyfriend, identified by LaGrange police as 21-year-old Deangelo Finley of Auburn, Alabama, after Finley raced back to their car Sunday night and tried to drive away. Green, who was from Manchester, Georgia, was hit once.

Officers arrived at the RaceTrac at LaFayette Parkway and Patillo Road just before midnight. They administered first aid to Green until she could be loaded into an ambulance and taken to WellStar West Georgia, where she later died.

The stop at the RaceTrac was supposed to be brief, investigators said. According to police, Green and Finley were on their way back home when Finley saw a man he knew and confronted him in the parking lot.

“There was a brief argument before Finley robbed the male by snatching a necklace from his neck,” a police spokesman said in a news release. “Finley then ran back to the vehicle Green occupied and began to leave. As they were driving from the parking lot, the male suspect began firing into the victim’s vehicle and Green was struck.”

The shooter has not been identified. Investigators believe the man is a resident of Phenix City, Alabama.

Finley was arrested on a charge of robbery by snatch. He is being held in the Troup County Jail.
