A 33-year-old woman is behind bars after authorities say they first caught her with 3 pounds of methamphetamine and then arrested her again less than 10 days later during a reported shoplifting incident.

On Jan. 15, Lee County sheriff’s deputies arrested Ashley Marie Cooper during a stop on a traffic violation in northwest Lee County. During that investigation, deputies found the methamphetamine.

She was charged with drug trafficking and first-degree possession of marijuana. Her bond was set at $53,000 and she was released the same day.

Nine days later – on Jan. 24 – deputies responded to Dollar General in Smith Station on a report of a shoplifting incident in progress. Authorities encountered Cooper, who they said was in possession of items stolen from the store as well as methamphetamine.

She was arrested again, this time on unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Her bond in the previous arrest was revoked and she is now being held without bond.
