The names of the couple who perished in a Elmore County Fire Friday night have been release.  They are identified as 75-year-old Bobby Glenn Byrd and his wife 78-year-old Veda Byrd. They both were wheelchair-bound and couldn’t escape the blaze.

Their home was was on County Road 64 in Elmore County and they had lived there for more than 40 years.

“They were great people, biggest hearts on them than anyone I’ve ever met,”  “They’d give you the shirt off their backs” was the statement by Pine Level Assistant Fire Chief Kenny Barber who knew the couple and was one of the first responders.

The Chief said the couple would be missed.  He said the community would know them by sitting near their mailbox on a pretty day and just waving at people who drove by their house.

The State Fire Marshal is still investigating the cause of the fire.
