An Indiana fugitive and his wife were arrested in Alabama Tuesday evening.

Mark Wayne Wilburn, 53, and his wife, 49-year-old Melina Ann Wilburn, were taken into custody by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies and Fultondale place. The couple was found in a hotel on Boots Boulevard in Fultondale, said sheriff’s Deputy Chief David Agee.

According to Indiana news outlets, the shooting happened about 7 p.m. Monday at a home in Lebanon, Indiana. Wilburn’s 29-year-old son-in-law was shot in the chest and is hospitalized in stable condition.

Agee said sheriff’s officials received word about noon Tuesday from the Lebanon Police Department that the fugitive might be in Jefferson County. Sheriff’s officials, including Star 1 helicopter, searched several locations in the county, including a neighborhood behind Pinson Valley High School that briefly put the school on lockdown.

Eventually, authorities located the Wilburns in Fultondale. Mark Wilburn is being held on charges of aggravated battery with a weapon, failure to appear for eluding law enforcement and attempted murder.

Malina Wilburn is being held on a charge of obstruction of justice.

The suspects were booked into the Jefferson County Jail just after 5:30 p.m. and are being held without bond pending extradition to Indiana.
