Alabama National Guard were conducting training exercises at Pelham Range on Saturday evening for several hours, causing people across east Alabama to wonder where the sound of explosions were coming from.
The “booms” heard were caused by troops conducting exercises at the range that included firing rockets.
“These rockets are louder than the normal artillery they use for troop exercises,” according to a social media post by Calhoun County EMA.
If you have any concerns and you aren’t sure if any explosions you hear are related to the activities at Pelham Range, you can contact Calhoun County officials at (256) 237-2399.
