Police: Suspect killed, Vestavia Hills officer injured in shooting

A person is dead after an officer-involved shooting on Saturday in the 4400 block of Old Overton Road in Vestavia Hills.

According to police, officers were responding to a call of a person with a gun around 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 and when they arrived a white man with a gun fired shots at them.

Officers returned fire, the man was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

One officer was injured and taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

According to Vestavia Hills police, ALEA will take over the investigation.
