A woman is dead after she jumped from the 17th floor of a downtown Birmingham hotel, authorities say.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Katherine R. Fiorentino. She was 33, lived in Rehoboth, Massachusetts and was a flight attendant.
The incident happened at 11:21 p.m. Saturday at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel on Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard. Authorities said Fiorentino was staying at the hotel when other guests notified security that there was a white female acting erratically who had thrown her cell phone over a balcony wall.
Hotel security located the woman – now identified as Fiorentino – and were talking with her when she ran and jumped over the wall. She landed on a roof area of the second-floor lounge and was pronounced dead at 11:49 p.m.
No additional information was immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
