Above Judge Paul Story
I want to thank all our citizens for being patient with your Probate office as we have worked diligently to continue to serve you during this pandemic.
I would like to inform our citizens officially that we will be opening the Lafayette Courthouse and Lanett Annex back to the public on Monday May 18th. We will be open the regular hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm EST at the Annex and 8:00am – 4:30pm CST at the Courthouse.
There will be parameters in place at both facilities to meet the requirements set forth by the CDC and Gov. Ivey.
Each citizen will be required to wear a mask or some facial covering to receive service. Also citizens and employees will be required to have their temperature checked as they enter the building. If your temperature is elevated to 100 degrees or above then you will be asked to return home and return at a later date.
At the courthouse there will be color coded cards at the security desk with a specific amount for each office and if there is not a card available at the desk there will be no one allowed into the building for that particular office. Once a card is returned to security it will be disinfected and available for the next person to come in for that office.
At the annex there will be a limit of one customer per window and one in driver’s license for probate and each other office will designate their amount.
There will be other parameters in place for in-person hearings that are still being discussed amongst all presiding judges.
The County Commission asks that while you wait outside of the building for entrance that you practice proper social distancing or return to your vehicle and wait patiently. We are also asking that if you are experiencing any symptoms of Covid-19 that you would remain home until such a time that you are asymptomatic.
I know this will be an inconvenience and slow the process some for those conducting business at either of the facilities but the Chambers County Commission and department heads are striving to provide a safe environment for our citizens and employees as we adjust our procedures to properly serve you during this time.
