Orange Beach Fire-Rescue said a 14-year-old boy was bitten by a shark Friday afternoon in the Gulf of Mexico.
Officials said the teenager’s injuries are consistent with those caused by a shark bite, but nobody actually saw a shark.
Police said the teenager was swimming with his father near a large school of small fish. As the two went to leave, the teenager felt pain.
The teenager suffered “mild abrasions and a few small puncture wounds,” police said.
The incident happened at about 1:20 p.m. and the teen was transported to the South Baldwin Regional Center. His injuries appear to be minor.
