ALEA PRESS RELEASE: LEE COUNTY, OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

LEE COUNTY – Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State
Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are investigating an officer-involved shooting at the request of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, involving Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Troopers within ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.

 

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office received notification at approximately 1:06 a.m. Saturday, June 19, of an individual with a gun on Lee Road 206 near Uchee Creek. Deputies and Troopers responded to the scene; a stand-off ensued, several attempts were made to get the suspect to drop the gun, however, the suspect then pointed the gun at the officers, this threat resulted in the suspect being shot.

 

The suspect was identified as Jeff Melvin, 20, of Salem who was transported to Piedmont Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. No officers were injured during the incident.

 

Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Lee County District Attorney’s Office.

 

Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing.
