Buster L. Robertson of Cragford, Alabama
The funeral service for Buster L. Robertson, age 90 of Cragford, will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Cragford Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Cummings, Rev. Zenus Windsor and Rev. Dwight Upchurch officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.
Mr. Robertson passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Birmingham. He was born in Cragford, lived for a short time in Ashland and then returned to Cragford where he lived the rest of his life. Mr. Robertson was the owner and operator of Robertson’s Garage in Cragford for over 40 years. After his son Larry assumed ownership of the garage, Buster continued to work there until retiring in 2003. He served as one of the original members of the 1208 Quartermaster Company in Lineville and retired in 1987 after 36 years of service as a Warrant Officer (WO4). Mr. Robertson was a member of Cragford Baptist Church and served as Deacon for over 60 years. In 1968 he co-founded the Lineville Quarterback Club and continued as a faithful supporter of the Central High School athletic program up until his passing.
Buster was also a co-founder of the Cragford Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Board of Directors for First State Bank for over 30 years, was on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Motor Sports Hall of Fame and a lifetime member of the Auburn University Alumni Association. He also earned his license as a private airplane pilot. In 2015 the Cragford Railroad Bridge was named in his honor by the State of Alabama. Buster, in all his roles as husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, businessman, deacon and friend, always showed true charity and compassion to everyone. He made a difference in the lives of those around him.
Mr. Robertson is survived by one daughter, Susan R. Crowden (Al) of Somerville, AL; one son, Larry D. Robertson (Karen) of Cragford; four sisters: Clara Owen of Courtland, AL, Edwina East of Columbus, GA, Geraldine Mattox of Ashland and Ramona Wilkinson of Ashland; three grandchildren: Douglas Robertson (LaShay) of Cragford, Justin Crowden (Savannah) of Priceville and Amy Bruce (Tab) of Auburn; three great-grandchildren: Kannon Robertson, Drake Crowden and Layla Crowden plus his caretaker, Bonnie Kunickis.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Raymond B. Robertson and Otha Cole Robertson; his wife of 67 years, Maryjo Walker Robertson; one daughter, Deborah R. Larson; two sisters: Hazel Martin and Alene Mattox and one brother, Pete Robertson.
Mr. Robertson’s grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Board Members of First State Bank and their spouses, members of the Central High School Athletic Club and members of the Alabama Army National Guard units in Lineville and Oxford will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland. Mr. Robertson will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Send online condolences at www.benefieldfuneralhome.com
