Mr. James S. “Jim” Reed, age 81 of Ashland, passed away January 27, 2019 at his residence. In accordance with his wishes there will no public services at this time.
Mr. Reed was born in Dyer County, Tennessee after high school he served two years in the United States Navy, was a former resident of Chicago, Ill, Atlanta, Georgia and moved to Clay County in 1985. Mr. Reed had worked for Swift and Company Poultry Processors for several years, prior to his career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture where he retired after 17 years of service as an agricultural market reporter. He also loved to buy and sell cars which he was able to do up until recently.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years: June Summerlin Reed of Ashland; one daughter: Elizabeth Mooty (Allen) of Lilburn, Ga; one sister: Sheila Reed Cooper (Ed) of Trenton MI; one grandson: Andrew Williams of Talladega, several nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Solie Dewitt Reed and Dora Estelle Cook Reed, one daughter, Carolyn Williams, and one brother, Harold Reed.
