The funeral service for Mary “Joann” Miller, age 72 of Lineville, will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Miller passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Clay County Hospital. A Clay County native, she graduated from Mellow Valley High School in 1963 then moved to Washington, D.C. where she began a 35-year career in government service. Joann first worked for the F.B.I. as a file clerk and in the fingerprinting division then went on to serve with the Department of Finance Accounting System. Her profession took her on travels across the United States and numerous locations across the world where she would set up and train workers on finance accounting systems. After retiring in the grade of GM-14, Joann and her husband Bob returned to settle in Clay County in 2000.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert H. “Bob” Miller of Lineville; one daughter, Laura Horchner (Gary) of Fairplay, MD; one son, Michael S. Miller of Smithburg, MD; one sister, Debbie Jones (Joe) of Cragford; four brothers: Kenneth Mitchell of Sylacauga, Alvin Mitchell (Pat) of Talladega, Calvin Mitchell of Cragford and Danny Mitchell (Betsy) of Ashland; four grandchildren: Kimberley Lewis (Matthew), Dustin Horchner, Candace Horchner and Christopher Miller and three great-grandchildren: Cadence, Evelyn and Crue.
Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her parents: Ephraim Jesse Mitchell and Mary Magdalion Estes Mitchell.
Dustin Horchner, Calvin Mitchell, Matthew Lewis, Danny Mitchell, Gary Horchner and Christopher Miller will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Monday, March 4, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
