The graveside service for Bill Ragon, age 81 of Wadley, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Union Baptist Church at Motley with Rev. Jason Watkins and Bro. David Holcombe officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Ragon passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at his residence in Wadley. A former resident of Marshall County and a native resident of Clay County, Mr. Ragon spent his life as a cattle and poultry farmer for 18 years, and worked as a heavy equipment operator in several counties for several companies. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1957, and attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Velma T. Ragon of Wadley; two daughters: Beth Watkins (Jason) of Ashland, and Patty Kirby (Willie) of Wadley; one sister, Junita Davidson of Southside; four grandchildren: Nathan Watkins of Ashland, Christina McDaniel (Brandon) of Wedowee, Nikki Kirby of Fultondale, and Ashley Yates (Kody) of LaFayette; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ragon was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur Ragon and Myrtle Mae Wilson; one infant daughter, Debbie Ragon; two sisters: Dorothy Mahan and Catherine Griffin; four brothers: J.W., Rayburn, Milton, and Nolan Ragon.
Willie Kirby, Ted Cotney, Dale Knight, Greg Mask, Douglas Kirk, and Donald Kirk will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville from 5:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Flowers are accepted, however, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 325 Mt. Zion Church Road Ashland, AL 36251.
