Subhash Chandra Sinha, a retired Mechanical Engineering Professor at Auburn University and a longtime resident of Auburn, AL died on Monday, June 10, 2019 at the age of 71 after a long gallant battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).
Subhash is survived by his sisters Shobha , Sushma and Rekha.
Subhash was born in Bihar, India in November 1947 to Shyama and Parmanand Sahay. He obtained his BS degree from Bihar Institute of Technology, Sindri, MS from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and PhD from Wayne State University, Detroit; all in mechanical engineering.
Immediately after obtaining his PhD degree, Subhash started his first full-time job as an Assistant Professor at Kansas State University in the Fall Semester of 1977. Before coming to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Auburn University in 1987, Subhash held a faculty position at SUNY-Binghamton for two years. Subhash retired from Auburn in 2016 with the designation of an ‘Alumni Professor Emeritus’.
Apart from being a man of academia, Subhash was a world traveler and a talented avid photographer. He was a philanthropist and regularly donated to Red Cross, Mayo Clinic, AU, A Cancer S, A Lung A, A Alzheimer. A. A Heart A, World Wildlife Fund and others.
A memorial service will be held in the honor of Subhash in the McCartney Suite of Shelby Engineering Center at the Auburn University with the date and time still TBD. Please contact ([email protected]) for more information.
