Don was born on March 28, 1946 in Mobile, AL to Nary Glenn Sullivan and Quintilla Meroney Sullivan. He was the middle of five children and got the distinct honor of receiving the Meroney name which is most likely why he went on to sign his name Don M. Sullivan! Don married his college sweetheart, Patsy Haygood Finley-yes, Haygood! So given those unique family names they chose to name their only child simply, Stacy Renee.

Graduating from Jacksonville State University, Don received another distinct honor of being “invited” by the U.S. government to join the military. Don couldn’t cook and lacked janitorial skills so having a college degree he chose to go to Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, GA. He sailed through with flying(Airborne Training) colors. Don became adept at all things military which included SCRUBBING FLOORS AND CLEANING TOILETS WITH A TOOTHBRUSH and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. A few months later, he received yet another honor of being chosen for a trip to Vietnam! Don served his tour of “Nam” and returned home as a 1st Lt. He then began his civilian career back in Mobile, AL, working in the finance industry while continuing to serve in the Army Reserves, eventually leaving with the rank of a Major.

Next adventure in life was his professional career with his corporate company taking him, his wife, and daughter to Pensacola, FL, Jacksonville, FL, Wellington, FL, Eugene, OR, Phoenix, AZ, Denver, CO, Birmingham, AL, Franklin, TN, settling into retirement in Millerville, AL. One of his fondest memories was being selected for the 2018 Honor Flight and traveling to Washington, D.C. Though having lived in many wonderful places in the U.S., some of the happiest days of his life were spent in Millerville, AL.

Don Sullivan passed away at his home in Millerville, AL, on July 26, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patsy Finley Sullivan, his daughter, Stacy Sullivan of Nashville, TN, a brother Richard Sullivan (Barbara) of Huntsville, and a brother-in-law, Donny Finley (Janet) of Birmingham.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BGHS Alumni & Friends, 1822 County Rd 7, Talladega, AL 35160.
