Mrs. Sara Kate Norred, age 94, of Valley passed away on Thursday, August 29th, 2019 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.
Mrs. Norred was born on April 22nd, 1925 in Langdale, Alabama to the late Ager Lane and Mary Lem Jennings Lane. She was also preceded in death by her husband, M. E. Norred, Jr.; siblings, Homer (Spott) Lane, Jime Lane, Millie Lane, Claude Lane, Benny Earl Lane, Ethel Lane, Janie Tillery, Pearl Hill, Doris (Pete) Howard, Ruth Hatchett; special niece, Joy Williams.
Mama Kate loved to laugh. Her mission was to make at least one person laugh each day. She was a very active member of the Langdale United Methodist Church and was a member of the “Kitchen Mafia” at the church.
She was a Girl Scout leader, President of Langdale United Methodist WSCS, member of the Fellodian Class at Langdale United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Pearl Hill circle. She truly loved her church and her church family.
She was a room mother at LaFayette Lanier Elementary School and volunteered at the Bread Basket and Soup Kitchen for many years.
She was a huge Auburn fan and pretended to understand everything about the game when she attended the games.
She loved traveling where she was a coordinator and organizer of many bus tours.
Mrs. Norred is survived by her son, Larkin (Judy) Norred; daughter, Susan (John) Caruthers, Ellen (Paul) Meadows; special niece, Kathy Hill (Jody) Edge; grandchildren, Brian (Heather) Caruthers, Ben Caruthers, Jana Caruthers (Matt) Poirier, Katie Meadows (Jonathan) Herston, Mark Meadows, Will Meadows, Daniel Meadows, Casie Norred (Weston) Dean, Sara Norred (C.J.) Crutchfield; 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 31st, 2019 at 3:00P.M. EDT at the Langdale United Methodist Church with interment following in Langdale Cemetery. The Reverend Rusty Tate and the Reverend Mike Stonebreaker officiating. Her family will be receiving friends at the church on Saturday from 2:00P.M. EDT until the service hour.
The family graciously declines any flowers for her service and requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Langdale United Methodist Church.
