The Obituary for James Clinton Birchfield, Jr. of Munford, Alabama (Clay, Talladega and Calhoun Counties)


The funeral service for Mr. James Clinton Birchfield, Jr, age 72 of Munford, AL, will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Chris Chastain Speaking. Burial with military honors will follow at Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Birchfield passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at RMC Hospital in Anniston. Born in Clay County, AL to James Sr. and Annie Sewell Birchfield he lived in Anniston for many years before moving to Munford. He spent a short time in the US Navy and four years in the US Marines, serving two tours in Vietnam. He returned home and served in the Alabama National Guard for an additional four years achieving the rank of Lance CPL. He earned the Vietnam service Medal and Campaign Medal w/Device. He was self-employed as a painter and home remodeler.

Mr. Birchfield is survived by a daughter, Kelly Chastain (Chris) of Oxford; three sons: Charlie Birchfield (Aimee) of Oxford, Chris Birchfield (Shelley) of Delta and Billy Birchfield (Charmain) of Ashland; nine grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; three step-daughters and four step-grandchildren; other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Helen Birchfield and Irene Birchfield; one sister, Elizabeth Isbell.

Active Pallbearers will be Charlie Birchfield, Chris Birchfield, Billy Birchfield, Hunter Birchfield, Austin Chastain and Myles Gregory.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 12:00 PM until service time at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville.
