Ms. Susye “ Sue” Griggs Patten, 79, of Jonesboro, GA, formerly of Lanett, AL, gained her wings into eternal rest on Monday, June 8, 2020 at her residence.
Celebration of Life Service for Ms. Patten will be held on Monday, June 15, at 1:00 p.m. EST in the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Shandor Calloway, Pastor, Rev. Michael Stiggers, Eulogist, Rev. Adrian Frazier, Rev. Gary Dixon, Rev. Melvin Owens, Assisting
Public viewing will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 at the mortuary.
Susye Griggs Patten was born on April 6, 1941 in Fredonia, (Lanett) Alabama to the late Shed Griggs, Sr. and Corine Winston Griggs.
Sue, as she was affectionately called, was educated at the New Hope School in the Fredonia community She was a 1960 graduate of Phillips High School in Five Points, Alabama. Sue joined the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, where she was a dedicated member. At New Hope, she served, faithfully, as the chairperson of the culinary staff, secretary of New Hope School Foundation and the missionary ministry.
After graduating from high school, Sue relocated to Hartford, Connecticut, where she worked for ADVO Stevens for several years and retired after 29 years at West Point Stevens upon returning home to Lanett, Alabama. She enjoyed watching television and working on crossword puzzles. Sue was a mother, aunt and grandmother to many and she impacted the lives of those who encountered her.
Sue gained her wings on Monday, June 8, 2020 at her home in Jonesboro, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roy Griggs, Raymond Griggs, Shed Griggs, Jr., and Morris Griggs, and sister, Loraine Griggs Grady.
Memories of Sue will be forever be cherished by her faithful and loving daughter, Kendra Latesha Patten, Jonesboro, GA; one brother, Clifford Griggs, Hartford, CT; three sisters, Catherine Griggs Morris, Snellville, GA, Viola Griggs Scott and Elizabeth Griggs of Bloomfield, CT; sisters-in-law, Florine Griggs, Lanett, AL, Daisy Griggs, Bloomfield, CT, Alecia Griggs, Fort Washington, MD, Hildred Griggs, Conyers, GA, Essie Griggs, Hartford, CT; special nephew and caretaker, Erick Griggs, Jonesboro, GA; special nephew, Ryan Griggs, Atlanta, GA; special cousins and nieces, Angel Lewis, Madison and Layla Bray, Lanett, Alabama; god children, Derek (Sharron) Calhoun, Juandalyn (Larry) Calhoun Heslop, Valarie Bryant Smith, Aisha Smith Lockett, Lanesha Smith Levert, Keonna James, Breonna James, Tomeshia James Madden and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
