The Obituary for Mr. Boyden D “Poppy” Horn (Clay County)


Graveside Services for Boyden D. “Poppy” Horn, age 80 of Talladega, was Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Clairmont Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Keith Jones and Rev. Randy Harrelson officiating.

Mr. Horn passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Lineville Health & Rehabilitation. A Lifelong resident of Clay County, he graduated from Clay County High School, and upon graduating entered into the United States Army. After serving in the Army and the National Guard for a number of years, he worked as a construction equipment operator with Alabama Power for almost 40 years. Mr. Horn enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, shooting guns with his grandson, Russell, and wood working and carpentry. He served as the Chief Deputy of the Clay County Sherriff’s Department and on the Clay County School Board, and was a deacon and member of Clairmont Springs Baptist Church, and everyone knew him as “Poppy”.

He is survived by 2 daughters: Amy Hill (Jeff) of Lineville, and Kim Jordan (Jim) of Ashland; 7 grandchildren: Jessika Crawford (Nolan), Holli Edmondson, Katie Carr (Eric), Will Jordan, Russell Jordan, Hope Hill, and Mandi Hill; one great-granddaughter: Mia Crawford; one sister: Fay Holland of Rainbow City; one brother-in-law: Gary Edmondson (Barbara) of Talladega; and a large extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Edgar Sim Horn and Lessie Eunice Todd Horn; his wife, Daisy Horn, one sister, Althea Maine; and one brother, Howard Horn.

Will Jordan, Russell Jordan, Dwight Harris, Nick Jordan, Andy Howell, William Mitchell, Richard Johnson, and Dave Fuller served as pallbearers.
