The Obituary for Mr. Charles C. “Charlie” Hickman (Clay County)


Graveside Services for Mr. Charles C. “Charlie” Hickman, age 80 of Millerville, were held on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Millerville Community Cemetery at 12:00 P.M. with Rev. Donnie Pritchard officiating.

Mr. Hickman passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at his home. He was born in Millerville, and at the age of 16 started working for Zeladonis Metal. After graduating from Bibb Graves High School, he served for 2 years in the U.S. Air Force. After exiting the military, he returned to Zeladonis Metal where he worked for 24 years. He went on to work and retired from 30 years of service in maintenance at Clay County Hospital. Charlie was a longtime member of Millerville United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher for a number of years. He was a hardworking and generous man, who enjoyed making picture frames and other woodworking, and had a passion for building things for his grandchildren. Charlie was always willing to help anyone, and loved his family dearly. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and they loved spending time with him.

Mr. Hickman is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nelda Hickman of Millerville; two daughters: Sherry Burnette of Millerville and Susan Jones (Steven) of Talladega; four grandsons: Adam Jones (Amy) of Ashland, Richard Burnette (Fala) of Millerville, Aaron Jones (Abbie) of Lineville, and Philip Burnette of Millerville; four great-grandchildren: Greyson, Noah, Ezra, and Lucy Jones; one sister, Pauline “Polly” Pitts of Millerville; one brother, Tommy Hickman (Sharon) of Alexander City, and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Cecil Hickman and Sara Pearl Harkins Hickman, and two brothers, James Edward Hickman and Robert Earl Hickman.

Active Pallbearers were Steven Jones, Richard Burnette, Philip Burnette, Adam Jones, and Aaron Jones.
