The Obituary for Mr. Willie “Ed” Heflin (Clay County)


William (Willie) Edward (Ed) Heflin, Sr., also known as Sonny, was born on July 19, 1935 in Cragford, Alabama (Clay County) to the late Edward and Alberta Heflin. He was the fourth child of eight children. Jewel, Kathleen, Thomas, Betty Joe, and Shirley have preceded him in death.

Willie Ed attended Clay County Training School in Lineville, AL. He joined Spring Hill Baptist Church at a young age. He has been a member and was active as a Deacon, Deacon Board Chairman, and Sunday School Teacher until his health began to decline. Willie Ed retired from CSX Corporation after thirty-seven (37) years of service in Track Maintenance. Willie Ed also was a past Mason. He is also a past member of the Lineville Industrial Board.

Willie Ed married the late Nellie Mae Stewart on October 25, 1953. This union produced five (5) children, twelve (12) grandchildren, and seventeen (17) great grandchildren.

Willie Ed is survived by two (2) sons: Willie Ed Heflin, Jr. (Lola) of Lineville and James Heflin (Tonoa) of Atlanta, GA; three (3) daughters: Thelma Heflin of Atlanta, GA, Mary Berry of Lineville, AL, and Hilda Miller (Willie) of Huntsville, AL; two sisters: Lillie Person of Dayton, OH, and Glenda Dembure (Phillip) of Atlanta, GA; twelve (12) grandchildren: Toneka Lindsey (Preston) of Huntsville, AL, Willie Ed Heflin, III of Birmingham, AL, Derek Berry of Anniston, AL, Desmond Ford (Racheal) of Goodwater, AL, Jermaine Heflin and Jason Heflin (Brittney) of Atlanta, GA, Jimmy Berry (Rainae) of Houston, TX, Austin Miller and Victoria Miller of Huntsville, AL, Lynisha Wood of Lineville AL, Jerry Ward and Cierra Vozeman of Atlanta, GA; seventeen (17) great grandchildren: Quindeja Berry of Huntsville, AL, Quintaja Berry of Anniston, AL, Tameasha Blair of Richmond, VA, Preston Lindsey, Jr, of Birmingham, AL, Jordan and Cameron Lindsey of Huntsville, AL, Jasmine Heflin of Talladega, AL, Jason Heflin, Jr., Bellamy and Berkley Heflin of Atlanta, GA, Adrian and Janae Berry of Houston, TX, Marquis Lindsey of Huntsville, AL, Jeremiah Clinkscales and Laraya Whatley of Lineville, AL, Zack and Hopson Vozeman of Atlanta, GA, and one addition to arrive later this year, Jaylen Berry of Houston, TX; two (2) brothers-in-law: Alonzo Stewart and Leroy Stewart (Helen) of Selma, AL; and, (4) sisters-in-law: Irene Smith of Montgomery, AL, Belzora Sharpe (Leroy) of Selma, AL, Alice (Ulysses) Norris, and Leola Smith of Detroit, MI and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
