The Obituary for Mr. Georgia Ellon Morrison Hendon (Clay County)


Funeral services for Mrs. Georgia Ellon Morrison Hendon, age 88 of Lineville, were held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville, with Brother Ron McKeever officiating. Burial followed in the Barfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Hendon passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Lineville Health & Rehab. Born in Randolph County, she graduated from Randolph County High School in 1949 and has been a resident of Clay County since 1953. A loving wife, mother and grandmother; Mrs. Hendon was a seamstress who enjoyed sewing drapes, quilting, embroidery and cross stitch. She was a great cook and loved to can and garden. She was a lady of many trades; working as a bookkeeper for Coca-Cola, being manager over the Lineville School Cafeteria and teaching Sunday school for over 40 years at Barfield Baptist Church. But Mrs. Hendon’s most cherished job was being a mother. She was a member of Barfield Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Alton Davis Hendon of Lineville, her children: Scott Hendon (Dianne) of Cullman, Sherry H. Wood (Russell) of Florence, Stanley Hendon (Melinda) of Chattanooga, TN and Stuart Hendon (Gerri) of Montgomery, her sister, Elizabeth Cole (Charles) of Gadsden, two sisters-in-law: Wylene Morrison of Bynum and Johann Hendon of Chattanooga, TN, her brother, Braden Morrison (Mary) of Oxford, seven grandchildren: Andrea Tew (David), Candace LeMay (Dale), Joshua Hendon (Taylor), Russell Wood, Jr., Samuel Wood, Brock Hendon and Mary Braden Hendon, three great-grandchildren: Adeline and June LeMay, John Tew and one more on the way, Anna Katherine Tew, a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Hattie Morrison, her brother, Pate Morrison, her brother-in-law, Hardy Hendon and her mother and father-in-law, W. Davis and Mae Hendon.

Mrs. Hendon’s grandsons served as pallbearers.

The family requests no flowers; instead memorial contributions may be made to Barfield Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 74 East Mill Rd Lineville, AL 36266.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville was in charge of the arrangements.
